Drupal, twitter and facebook combo

Writing a successful blog is something I'm quite motivated to do at the moment. The biggest challenge I've found thus far is telling people about the blog and getting people to read it. Firstly they need to know that a new blog has been posted then they need to know where it is so they can read it. This is all before they read the title or teaser to figure out weather they can be arsed reading it or not.

One thing that can help is setting up facilities that automatically tell you're readers or potential readers of new posts to read. Drupal, twitter and facebook can do this quite nicely. Obviously you'll need a facebook account, a twitter account and a blog that runs on Drupal.

Once you have all these, you'll need a couple of add-ons to make everything run smoothly. For drupal, you'll want the twitter module. This works best with Drupal 6 using the development snapshot rather than the stable released in 2008. And for facebook you'll want to add the twitter application and enable twitter to update your facebook status.

So install the twitter module in Drupal and configure it for your user, then when posting a blog, you'll have the option to twitter you posting, something like 'New Post: !title !url'. Then workflow permit, Your Drupal site will update twitter and twitter will update your status on Facebook, Then all your friends on facebook and twitter will know of your post, and being you in nature will be interested to read, especially if they didn't know you had a blog.

I use a perl script to summarise a day of tweets into a blog post (Livejournal API only for now)

I've been using facebook for quite a while but have only just started to use Twitter. Not sure how Twitter will fit into my plans though

Thank you for this

Thank you for this information, I've just spent the past 3 hours pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to mesh Drupal, twitter & facebook.

As a top Twitter business

As a top Twitter business user, I was sent an advance copy of the Tweet Adder System for my review. This is by far the best Networking Tool I have used for Twitter!

I use twitter to send me

I use twitter to send me direct messags on new comments. that way i can directly respond or delete spam.

here is how i did it:

Is drupal really better than Wordpress? I've been using WP for a while but if it is much better I'd be willin to switch.

Well yes. Wordpress is for

Well yes. Wordpress is for blogging. Drupal does that but so much more.

HI
That is nice information,

Thanks

Very good article. I was

Very good article. I was recently blogging on The Netflix Prize, which deals with the quality of the recommendation. However, conclusions are drawn primarily off of user ratings. People don't seem to bother rating on facebook, I know I don't. I wonder what correlations exist there...

Hi, do you know how to get

Hi, do you know how to get the twitter to update the status for the "fan" page instead of your personal facebook account? I can get drupal to post to twitter which is great. Then my personal facebook status message is updated with the twitter message. Which is fine, but I created an "organization" account for my website and am curious how to get the twitter app to update that page instead of my personal one.

Thanks,
Ajay

I have seen the same combo

I have seen the same combo for other CMS products. If one wants to use Joomla or Workpress instead of Drupal each has the Facebooka and Twitter modules as well.
